Getting the ball rolling
Whoever thought summer could be so stressful? What happened to lazing around and frolicking at the beach without a care? You don't realise how much paperwork it takes to start uni until you have to do it all.
I'm chuffed though, personally. Not only have I been granted the full tuition fee amount, maintenance grant, and maintenance loan, but I don't have to live in a box. There has been a private Facebook war going on between the Freshers and the admin at Lancaster: us wanting to know whether or not we actually had rooms, and them wanting us to go away and stop calling them.
It seems that a lot of universities have oversubscribed on their intake this year, so not everyone can live on campus or in the halls of residence. I know at Lancaster they have sent 55 students to live on the Lancaster campus of Cumbria University. At Leeds 120 students have been told to find their own accommodation because they accepted more students than they had rooms.
Luckily I got my offer this evening and have a room on campus, right in the middle of the university and near all my lecture rooms. I’m a very happy bunny.
If you want my advice – think long and hard about your firm and insurance choice offers. Most unis only guarantee accommodation if you pick them as your firm choice, so take care you know the score when you’re picking your uni or you may end up having to go looking for somewhere to live in a strange place where you don’t know anyone. Insurance choices matter too – it’s better to be realistic in case you don’t get the grades for your first choice – don’t just shrug off the second.
